Ovulation is the phase of the monthly cycle, in which ovarian follicles release a mature egg in the oviduct. This starts during the phase called Luteal Phase and the egg in the oviduct becomes ready to be fertilized by the sperm. If no fertilization happens, in a few days starts the menstruation. Ovulation starts in the middle of the menstrual cycle (on the 14th day on average). The several days before and after ovulation, from day 10 to day 18 of an average 28 days cycle, are the most appropriate for conception. These days for the so called ‘fertile window’ in which is the time when the egg could meet a spermatozoon. Sperm can survive for up to 7 days in the body of women and the egg is available for a day after it is released. This is why the fertile window begins 6 days before the actual ovulation. This is why these days are the most important ones for one to conceive.
